Aanmitaagzi Summer Arts Program (ASAP)

We are immersed in the summer arts program right now working with all these great youth on some large scale puppets for the Dances of Resistance presentation next year. They are in the middle of a dance/movement exercise session and we just have to share it with everyone. There are so many great things happening here it is a lot of fun.

Spring Events

We are doing a lot of Artist Days in preparation for our upcoming Dances of Resistance Works In Progress taking place in the middle of June. There will be a lot of opportunities to get involved and a lot of creation events that include music, dance, paint, poetry, film, writing, puppets, theatre and all forms of creation.

Aanmitaagzi Workshops

Workshops for Dances of Resistance are continuing as planned. We are excited to be working with people of all ages in a variety of ways. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact us and get on our mailing list so that event announcements are received and we have a chance to engage together.

A new work created and choreographed by Penny Couchie, When Will You Rage? is a “journey past the pain, the rage, the grief to recue the curiosity, passion, tenacity and love”

When Will You Rage? brings forward the stories of women who move past the fear of resistance to reclaim sovereignty. This 70-minutes dance theatre piece is an investigation of the history of personal, family, and community trauma and the passing of these traumas from generation to generation. Largely based on the stories of creator/choregrapher Penny Couchie, her great-grandmother, mother and aunts, When Will You Rage? honours those who have come before, recognizing and celebrating their strength and resilience.
